Cristina Acosta is from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. Her art is made by the coil method with the local white clay and her usual style and talent is in making thin-walled pots with delicate and intricate sweeping Paquimé designs. Many of Acosta's pieces also illustrate the skill of painting an intricate checkerboard pattern in black and terra cotta.
